  • This position is an on-site position which requires the incumbent to complete their work primarily at an NAU site, campus, or facility with or without accommodation. Opportunities for remote work are rare.
  • Driving a vehicle on behalf of the university is anticipated to be a regular part of this position. Arizona Administrative Code Fleet Safety Policy requires all employees who drive on university business become authorized by submitting Driver’s license information for driving record monitoring, and completion of training appropriate to the level of driving performed. The law applies to all faculty, staff, and students who drive personal or university-owned motorized vehicles for any business purpose. About the Position

The Career Development Coordinator serves as a strategic leader for career readiness initiatives within the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Northern Arizona University. This role supports the college’s integrated approach to preparing students for professional success by coordinating the implementation of a college-level career readiness framework. Through collaboration with faculty, students, employers, and alumni, the coordinator ensures systematic career preparation for all SBS students. The position provides a range of services designed to guide students toward a dynamic and strategic approach to career development, supporting their successful transition from college to graduate education or the workforce.

Responsibilities Include

30% Direct Student Services

  • Individual Career Coaching:
    • Provide one-on-one career counseling and guidance for students at critical decision points throughout their career readiness development, including career exploration, experiential learning both inside and outside the classroom (e.g., internships), job search strategies, and/or graduate school preparation
  • Programming and Workshops:
    • Design and facilitate career readiness workshops, alumni panels, networking events, and skill-building sessions organized around the SBS Career Communities framework
  • Cross-Campus Collaborations:
    • Collaborate with college student organizations, faculty, and other campus partners to develop and deliver programs and resources
  • Internship Program Assistance:
    • Assist with state- and national-level internship programs that reach beyond academic units within the college • Student Communication: Develop and maintain communication efforts including newsletters, Handshake messaging, social media presence, tabling opportunities, and other outreach to students - (Essential)

20% Building and Maintaining Student-Facing Resources

  • Career Communities Resource Creation:
    • Create, update, and actively maintain student-facing information, resource materials and/or toolkits for SBS developed career communities and pathways (i.e., Advocacy and Nonprofit; Social and Community Health; Media, Design and Communication; Public Service, Law and Justice; Education, Culture and Society; Environmental Stewardship and Community Development)
  • Resource Maintenance:
    • Oversee and coordinate career-related content/resources across various platforms and systems to ensure seamless accessibility to all SBS students regardless of their location or schedule, utilizing campus online applications, tools, and learning systems
  • Strategic Infrastructure Development:
  • Utilize systems, processes, and frameworks to enable scalable service delivery and long-term sustainability of SBS career development resources - (Essential)

20% Employer and Alumni Engagement- 

  • Strategic Partnership Development:
    • Build and maintain relationships with employers, alumni, and industry professionals
  • Employer Networking:
    • Explore opportunities for employer network building to gain industry insights and expectations, to support student recruitment needs, including career fairs, and to inform curricular and career development
  • Alumni Network and Mentorship Program Development:
    • Collaborate with college advancement and engagement staff to develop and coordinate an alumni network and mentorship program focused on events, mentoring, and career support initiatives, serving as the primary contact for platform management and organization - (Essential)

15% Faculty Partnership and Support

  • Faculty Resource Development:
    • Create/maintain practical tools, guides, and materials focused on career discussions, content, activities, and competencies that may be integrated into existing courses
  • Industry Intelligence Sharing:
    • Research and communicate employment trends, hiring practices, and industry insights to support course/curriculum development and student learning experiences
  • Consultation and Support:
    • Provide consulting, resources, and general ongoing support to faculty, units, and faculty committees upon faculty/unit request
  • Course Presentations: Deliver career-focused presentations in courses upon faculty request - (Essential)

10% Assessment, Analysis, and Reporting

  • Collaboratively engage in Career Coordinator Program Evaluation including:
    • Assessment of Program Effectiveness: Conduct systematic evaluation of career readiness efforts using established platforms (Handshake, Canvas) and custom assessment tools to track student engagement and measure impact on student retention, degree completion, and employment opportunities
    • Outcome Data Management: Coordinate collection and analysis of First Destination Survey data and other outcome metrics, providing regular reports and presentations to academic units and leadership
    • Continuous Improvement and Strategic Planning: Use student feedback, usage and outcome data, and industry information to regularly refine services and contribute to college-wide career readiness planning - (Essential)

5% Other

  • Campus Collaboration: Collaborate with career professionals in other career offices or other relevant roles as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned. - (Essential)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Undergraduate bachelor’s degree.
  • 3 years of relevant experience.

*A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications.


Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 or more years of relevant experience in career development or related area,
  • Experience in or knowledge of university and college-level academic or career development principles, practices, and theories
  • Experience with individual career coaching or advising, or related student engagement.
  • Experience leading career development activities or events in academic or related contexts
  • Experience in higher education environment, particularly working with students and/or faculty and staff
  • Experience in or familiarity with human resources or other areas related to hiring and onboarding practices and/or employee training and professional development
  • Knowledge of NACE Career Readiness Competencies and their integration
  • Experience with digital resource development and online platform management
  • Background in program development and assessment
  • Familiarity with social and behavioral sciences disciplines and related career pathways

Compensation

Salary range begins at $51,085. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire and Security Report

Each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.
