  • This position is a hybrid position which allows the incumbent to complete their work at both an NAU site, campus, or facility and at a non-centralized site with or without accommodation.
  • This position is subject to the availability of funding. The incumbent is not eligible for Service Professional non-renewal notice, or Classified Staff layoff or recall status. This position is funded by the US Department of Education through Educational Opportunity Centers and is subject to the availability of funding.
  • Driving a vehicle on behalf of the university is anticipated to be a regular part of this position. Arizona Administrative Code Fleet Safety Policy requires all employees who drive on university business become authorized by submitting Driver’s license information for driving record monitoring, and completion of training appropriate to the level of driving performed. The law applies to all faculty, staff, and students who drive personal or university-owned motorized vehicles for any business purpose. More information on the NAU Authorized Driver Policy can be found on the NAU website.
  • There are 2 positions available in two different locations: 
    • Position location: Holbrook, AZ
      • This position requires up to 80% travel in the Apache, Navajo and Coconino County specifically to target areas such as Flagstaff, Holbrook, Many Farms, Leupp, Sanders, Saint Johns, Show Low, and the Hopi Reservation with additional travel sites as requested. A valid driver’s license and driver’s insurance is required at all times.  
    • Position location: Flagstaff, AZ
      • This position requires up to 80% travel in the Yavapai and Coconino County specifically to target areas such as Ash fork, Clarkdale, Cottonwood, Flagstaff, Prescott, Prescott Valley, Rimrock, and Sedona with additional travel sites as requested. A valid driver’s license and driver’s insurance is required at all times.

About the Department/College

NAU Educational Opportunity Centers is a federally funded TRIO program. EOC provides counseling and support, from GED programming options to college admissions to qualified adults who want to enter or continue a postsecondary education program. We provide services to improve participants’ financial and economic literacy in 1:1 meetings or through workshops. The EOC program aims to increase the number of adult participants (19 years and older) who enroll in postsecondary education institutions. EOC is available in Coconino, Yavapai, Apache, Navajo, Mohave counties and NAU Statewide locations.


About the Position

NAU's Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC) program by providing outreach, counseling, and participant services to adult learners in Navajo, Apache, and Coconino counties. EOC is currently recruiting two Part Time temporary Student Development Coordinator, Intermediate whose role focuses on promoting EOC programming, delivering workshops, and offering guidance on education, career development, and financial aid in Flagstaff and Holbrook area. Additional responsibilities include recruiting eligible participants, building partnerships with community and tribal organizations, maintaining accurate records to meet federal compliance, and collaborating with the EOC team on program evaluation and events. Strong communication skills, the ability to work independently, and frequent travel within the service area are essential. Successful candidates must be able to work independently, communicate with EOC team members daily, be comfortable with speaking to large groups, and be able to take the initiative to build new partnerships.

This position is a hybrid position which allows the incumbent to complete their work at Holbrook at a non-centralized site and remote with or without accommodation, with 10% travel to Flagstaff for in-person training, turning in reports or professional development.

This position is for up to 18 hours per week, and/or work hours may be outside the normal 8-5 business hours to accommodate grant requirements.

Responsibilities Include

60% - Participant Support Services

  • Identify and promote Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC) programming by traveling in Navajo, Apache, and Coconino counties, meeting with community leaders, arranging and delivering information sessions and educational workshops.
  • Work collaboratively on the design, implementation, and evaluation of services that provide innovative, meaningful, and supportive experiences for participants, fostering their academic understanding and individual growth.
  • Provide constructive counseling in career development, education, personal matters, and financial aid, while offering valuable technical assistance with local, tribal, and federal financial aid for adult learners through one-on-one meetings, workshops and presentations.
  • Recruit and serve a minimum of 12 eligible participants.

20% - Program Liaison and Outreach

  • Engage in recruiting eligible participants who meet federal guidelines in targeted areas for EOC services by attending community events and researching prospective areas to set up a table to promote and provide services.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with community programs, resources, and institutions to create a network of support.
  • Leverage public relations skills to effectively promote EOC program services throughout the service area, organizing and facilitating workshops that highlight EOC activities.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with tribal entities, programs, and organizations to encourage participation and enhance community collaboration.

10% - Recordkeeping and Reporting

  • Ensure that hardcopy records and files for participants meet the federal regulations set by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Submit records to the manager on a regular weekly basis to maintain compliance and facilitate efficient operations.

5% - Team Support and Training

  • Collaborate with EOC team members on various tasks and events as stipulated by our grant, contributing to heightened community awareness and participation.
  • Assist the team in evaluating and assessing program services to ensure they align with grant objectives and the needs of participants.
  • Actively participate in division, unit, and team meetings, fostering teamwork and sharing insights to support division and team goals.

5% - Other

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Two years of job-related experience in supporting high school or postsecondary students, or relevant experience.

*A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiar with college admission processes and financial literacy.
  • Experience with Apache, Navajo, and Coconino County communities and populations.
  • Experience with digital programming and communication, such as Microsoft 365 (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel), Zoom, and Adobe Acrobat.

Compensation

Hourly Rate is $21.00. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire and Security Report

Each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.
