NAU Information Technology Services (NAU ITS) is the university’s official technology department. ITS provides technology services, products, and support for the Lumberjack community.


About the Position

Software Systems Engineer OR Software Systems Engineer, Intermediate OR Software Systems Engineer, Senior

Assist in the technical aspects of application modifications, upgrades, and middle tier support for NAU's Oracle/PeopleSoft based enterprise application systems (Financials, HR/Payroll, and Campus Solutions) and other enterprise application systems as needed to improve quality and service. Makes changes to the university’s existing information system infrastructure and monitors system changes to ensure their successful implementation and document increases in efficiency.

Responsibilities Include

Software Systems Engineering

65% - Systems Engineering

  • Supports the installation as directed of delivered PeopleSoft Application and technology (PeopleTools) updates to PeopleSoft environments.
  • Coordinates tasks with application development staff, systems administrators, and database administrators in support of projects involving the installation, upgrading, maintenance and performance tuning of Oracle/PeopleSoft software.
  • Participates in the administration and maintenance of PeopleSoft software, configuration settings, and scripting on application servers, web servers, and batch servers in an Oracle/Linux/Windows environment.
  • Performs technical work in conjunction with other team members and works directly with database administrators, development staff, and systems administrators.
  • Understands and applies knowledge of appropriate handling of IT infrastructure administration information

15% - Security Administration

  • Applies NAU custom modifications and Security access changes to NAU enterprise systems.
  • Follows standard systems/infrastructure principles and guidelines to ensure university systems are protected.
  • Gathers and interprets IT system/infrastructure data to ensure access to accurate and timely information.
  • Writes basic reports and assists in the preparation for audits of change management and security practices in the enterprise systems.

15% - Monitoring/Event Management

  • Ensures that system improvements are successfully implemented and monitored to increase efficiency.
  • Assists ITS staff and the campus community in trouble-shooting security and operational issues relating to Oracle/PeopleSoft.
  • Application batch, middle tier, and client workstation support.

5% - Other

  • Other Perform other duties as assigned.
  • On-call duties are required for this position.

  • Assists and may lead effort to install delivered PeopleSoft Application and technology (PeopleTools) updates to PeopleSoft environments.
  • Coordinates tasks with application development staff, systems administrators, and database administrators in support of projects involving the installation, upgrading, maintenance and performance tuning of Oracle/PeopleSoft software.
  • Administers and maintains PeopleSoft software, configuration setting sand scripting on application servers, web servers, and batch servers in an Oracle/Linux/Windows environment.

  • Assists ITS staff and the campus community in trouble-shooting operational issues relating to Oracle/PeopleSoft Application batch, middle tier, and client workstation support.

Minimum Qualifications

Software Systems Engineer

  • High School Degree; AND
  • 2 years of relevant experience


Software Systems Engineer, Intermediate

  • High School Degree; AND
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience


Software Systems Engineer, Senior

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or related field; AND,
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience

*A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications.

Compensation

Software Systems Engineer

  • Salary range begins at $58,882. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

Software Systems Engineer, Intermediate

  • Salary range begins at $77,871. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

Software Systems Engineer, Senior

  • Salary range begins at $89,551. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire and Security Report

Each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.
