Special Information

• This position is an on-site position which requires the incumbent to complete their work primarily at an NAU site, campus, or facility with or without accommodation. Opportunities for remote work are rare.
• Driving a vehicle on behalf of the university is anticipated to be a regular part of this position. Arizona Administrative Code Fleet Safety Policy requires all employees who drive on university business become authorized by submitting Driver’s license information for driving record monitoring, and completion of training appropriate to the level of driving performed. The law applies to all faculty, staff, and students who drive personal or university-owned motorized vehicles for any business purpose. About the Department/College

The Northern Arizona University Facility Services Custodial Department is currently hiring a Part-Time Temp Equipment Mechanic. The Custodial Department’s goal is to provide a clean, attractive and healthy learning environment. About the Position

The Equipment Mechanic position reports to the Custodial Operations Manager and performs maintenance and repair duties to custodial equipment including vacuums, extractors, buffers, burnishers, autoscrubbers, and other custodial equipment. Maintenance and repairs include cord repair, replacing switches, replacing small motors, and other minor equipment repairs. This position also diagnoses complex repairs to be sent to a contractor. The successful candidate will be required to work 4am till 8am – Monday through Friday. Additional hours may be available.

Responsibilities Include

90% Equipment Maintenance and Repair

• Performs maintenance and repair duties to custodial equipment including vacuums, extractors, buffers, burnishers, autoscrubbers, and other custodial equipment.
• Maintenance and repairs include cord repair, replacing switches, replacing small motors, and other minor equipment repairs.
• Maintains records on equipment repair and maintenance activities.
• Monitors and maintains equipment replacement parts inventory and requisitions replacement parts.
• Demonstrates working knowledge of routine work processes and tools.
• Ensures adherence to established university and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, and safety standards.
• Ensures work is done safely and according to state regulations.

10% Other

• May shovel and remove snow and ice from designated areas such as sidewalks, and entryways as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school degree
• Possession of a current Arizona Type D driver’s license.

*A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications.

• 1 year of relevant experience

Essential Physical Requirements

• Heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.
• Work in an environment having some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
• Moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

Compensation

Budgeted salary is $21.00. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire and Security Report

Each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.
