  • Driving a vehicle on behalf of the university is anticipated to be a regular part of this position. Arizona Administrative Code Fleet Safety Policy requires all employees who drive on university business become authorized by submitting Driver’s license information for driving record monitoring, and completion of training appropriate to the level of driving performed. The law applies to all faculty, staff, and students who drive personal or university-owned motorized vehicles for any business purpose. About the Department/College

The Center for Service and Volunteerism at NAU hosts five AmeriCorps programs and three AmeriCorps Seniors programs as well as the Axe of Service volunteer platform. We work closely with dozens of local partners to create volunteer and national service opportunities for hundreds of people -- students and members of the community -- each year.


About the Position

Part time, temporary, grant-funded position responsible for developing funding for CSV’s Environmental Literacy Corps. This position will receive close support from the NAU Advancement|Foundation, and work on fundraising, donor development, prospect research, and grant writing efforts to support the ELC program.

CSV launched the Environmental Literacy Corps in 2022 after a year of planning. ELC members work on environmental education projects at schools, nonprofits, and local government agencies. Projects include visitor services, volunteer coordination, curriculum design and delivery, community garden projects, energy conservation projects, and other work that helps improve environmental literacy in Arizona. ELC has attracted $1.3M in philanthropic funding in the past two years, but has been urged by those funders to seek additional and more varied sources of funding.

This person will help take the program to new heights and expand ELC’s impacts in Arizona’s communities.

Responsibilities Include

40% - Fundraising and Donor Development:

  • Works with SBS’s Senior Director of Development to develop additional and more sustainable sources of funding for ELC’s continued operation and expansion.
  • Research prospects, develop relationships with supporters in the community, and court potential donors.
  • Facilitate interactions with prospects for the Senior Director of Development and for CSV staff.
  • Coordinate communications with donors and supporters, including acknowledgements/thank you letters, impact statements, reports, and newsletters.
  • Works with CSV’s Marketing and Communications Coordinator, Data Analyst, and with the Senior Director of Development.
  • Organizes meetings, visits, and events with fundraisers/supporters, CSV staff, Foundation staff, and members/beneficiaries
  • Manages and maintains ELC-specific information in Foundation databases.

40% - Grant Writing and Coordination

  • Researches grant sources and opportunities, reviews notices, summarizes and presents to CSV staff and Senior Director of Development, prepares Letters of Interest, coordinates proposals and applications.
  • Tracks opportunities, writing progress, deadlines, and notice timelines.

15% - Planning

  • Research, identify, develop, set, and implement fundraising strategy, working closely with the Senior Director of Development and with CSV staff

5% - Other

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
  • Prior experience with fundraising
  • Prior experience with grant writing

*A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in higher education or non-profit setting
  • Experience in fundraising at a major university
  • Proven ability to engage, motivate, and work with prospects, volunteers, university officials, faculty, and staff or similar constituencies
  • Working knowledge of donor databases
  • Understanding of and appreciation for Northern Arizona University, its cultural and geographic specificity, and its commitment to student success
  • Understanding of and appreciation for environmental and education programs
  • Proven ability to work independently

Compensation

Hourly range is $38.46-$48.07. Annual hourly rate commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.


Pre-Employment Check

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. Also, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States.

Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire and Security Report

Each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.
