Special Information

  • This position is a remote position which allows the incumbent to complete their work at a location other than an NAU site, campus, or facility with or without accommodation. The incumbent may occasionally work in a shared site, but primarily will work elsewhere.
  • The incumbent must reside in the Phoenix Metro Valley, as the role requires hosting meetings, trainings, and meeting with volunteers in person.
  • This position is subject to the availability of funding. The incumbent is not eligible for Service Professional non-renewal notice, or Classified Staff layoff or recall status.
  • This position is posted as Part-Time Temp (PTT) Community Program Coordinator, Intermediate, which is a working title. The NAU system title for this position is Part-Time Temp Employees.
  • Driving a vehicle on behalf of the university is anticipated to be a regular part of this position. Arizona Administrative Code Fleet Safety Policy requires all employees who drive on university business become authorized by submitting Driver’s license information for driving record monitoring, and completion of training appropriate to the level of driving performed. The law applies to all faculty, staff, and students who drive personal or university-owned motorized vehicles for any business purpose.   • Special focus on recruitment, coordination and support of volunteers for the Chinese Senior Center.
  • May need to work on occasional weekend or evenings due to special events.

About the Position

The PTT Community Program Coordinator, Intermediate provides administrative and programmatic support for the FGP & SCP Program in Maricopa County focusing on the Phoenix area and surrounding cities. One of the key partners for this program is the Chinese Senior Center and we are seeking someone with Chinese (Mandarin) language skills to support the volunteers serving at this partner agency.
The Senior Companion Program (SCP) recruits, trains, and places low-income volunteers aged 55 or older with partner agencies to provide support to elderly, homebound individuals to maintain their independence. Senior Companions serve as friendly visitors to reduce isolation and loneliness by taking care of simple chores, providing transportation to medical and other appointments and outings, and offering contact with the outside world. Senior Companion volunteers receive a stipend of $4.00 per hour, mileage reimbursement (as funding allows), and other benefits.


The Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) recruits, trains, and places low-income volunteers age 55 and older with schools, Head Start Centers, or other agencies serving children. Foster Grandparents volunteer one-on-one or in small groups with children who need extra support to succeed. Foster Grandparent volunteers receive a stipend of $4.00 an hour, mileage reimbursement as funding permits, and other benefits.


Recruits, selects, orients, and provides support for AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers. Helps develop partnerships throughout Maricopa County to support ACS programming. Ensures the implementation of policies and practices, and assists in conducting oversight, review, and analysis of the effectiveness and compliance of the program(s). Coordinates FGP and SCP for AmeriCorps Seniors (ACS) in Maricopa County, through the offices of NAU’s Center for Service and Volunteerism. Serve as primary point of contact for the Chinese Senior Center staff and volunteers.

Responsibilities Include

45% - Program Management & Volunteer Coordination

  • Recruit, select, support, retain, monitor, and recognize AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers to meet program goals and within policy.
  • Reviews partner agency and volunteer applications, screens applicants for positions.
  • Introduces new volunteers to partner agency staff.
  • Acts as a liaison with AmeriCorps Senior volunteers, program partners, staff, and funders in facilitating program objectives.
  • Represent the Center for Service and Volunteerism at AmeriCorps Seniors meetings, conferences, and other events.
  • Assists in the development of program content; monitors program metrics and performance; maintains operation of the program locally.
  • Responsible for spending within allocated local budget for program expenditures; advises supervisor if a need arises for additional funds.
  • Contributes to the development of program policies and standards.
  • Trains and advises volunteers, participants, external stakeholders or constituents, and/or community partners on program guidelines and details.
  • May supervise or oversee student or temporary employees.
  • May be responsible for coordination of events, service projects, and/or recognition in relation to program(s).
  • May schedule and participate in meetings or committees on behalf of the program(s).

25% - Administrative

  • Establishes and maintains partnerships and connections with community stakeholders and organizations.
  • Distributes, collects, and processes applications, forms, and documents related to the programs.
  • Fields questions from partners and volunteers, providing problem solving and technical assistance with issues as they arise.
  • Prepares reports and records on program activities, progress, status, or other special reports to supervisor.
  • Ensures program compliance with all applicable university, state, federal, or other laws, rules, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Maintains records of program participants and program data, which may include inputting or updating data in a database.
  • Acts as main point of contact for program participants and other program stakeholders or constituents, including telephone and email communications; answers questions regarding the program; provides conflict resolution, if needed.
  • Researches, summarizes, and analyzes information regarding program participation; calculates statistics and compiles data to prepare special and/or recurring reports.
  • May schedule and participate in meetings or committees on behalf of the program(s).

25% - Event Planning and Outreach

  • Plan and lead monthly in-service training events for the volunteers including identifying and inviting speakers, securing a location, and communicating details to attendees.
  • Orient new partner sites and perform annual site visits.

5% - Other

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
  • 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Fluent Chinese language skills (written and spoken) (Cantonese-Mandarin).

*A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with non-profit organizations.
  • Experience recruiting, working with, and retaining volunteers.
  • Experience coordinating and delivering training.

Compensation

  • Hourly Rate is $22.00. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

Pre-Employment Check

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire and Security Report

Each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.
