About the Department/College

Campus Health serves as an integrated care clinic, providing services including: comprehensive primary medical care, lab services, immunizations, same-day appointments for urgent concerns, psychiatric services, behavioral health, physical therapy, and counseling services.


About the Position

Under general supervision, performs routine tests in medical laboratory to provide data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease, ensuring validity and accuracy of test results. Processes specimens for testing and dispatch. Maintains, operates, and troubleshoots equipment. Performs a variety of clerical duties for the laboratory staff. This position reports to the CHS Laboratory Director

Responsibilities Include

60% - Testing, Quality Control, and Maintenance

  • Performs a full range of clinical laboratory tests and examination in all sections of the laboratory.
  • Perform routine tests in the medical laboratory to provide data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease, ensuring validity and accuracy of test results.
  • Follow established laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, and reporting. Maintain, operate, and troubleshoot equipment.

20% - Clerical

  • Maintains records of patient results.
  • Performs clerical duties including incoming and outgoing lab reports, making copies, faxing results, and maintains records in an organized fashion.

10% - Specimen

  • Collection and processing Ability to draw intravenous and peripheral blood.
  • Collects samples from patients; evaluates specimens received for testing to determine suitability for testing; notifies physicians or nurse practitioners of rejected specimens.
  • Ability to prepare and process laboratory samples using established protocols.

5% - Customer Service

  • Greets patients, answers question for both provider and patients. Answering and fielding phones call for both provider and patients.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Lab Science or Medical Lab Technology from an accredited institution.
  • No/limited prior experience required.

*A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in medical lab setting.
  • Certification obtained through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of Health, Safety, and Emergency Preparedness policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of practices around universal precautions.
  • Knowledge of established professional standards of medical lab science practice and ethics.
  • Knowledge of risk for exposure to infectious material and communicable diseases.
  • Knowledge of patient rights, patient consent, confidentiality, and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Skills

  • Possess strong computer literacy skills.
  • Skills in prioritizing and completing multiple tasks of varying complexity and urgency in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Skilled in phlebotomy.

Compensation

Salary range begins at $44,422. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire and Security Report

Each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.
