- Driving a vehicle on behalf of the university is anticipated to be a regular part of this position. Arizona Administrative Code Fleet Safety Policy requires all employees who drive on university business become authorized by submitting Driver’s license information for driving record monitoring, and completion of training appropriate to the level of driving performed. The law applies to all faculty, staff, and students who drive personal or university-owned motorized vehicles for any business purpose. - Employees of Facility Services are considered essential staff and must report to work when the university is closed for emergencies. This position is required to participate in on-call, call back duties and snow removal, which can include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Under established circumstances will respond to emergency dispatch calls within set timeframes Administrative or Campus Living buildings.
- Complies with all job-specific safety requirements and procedures identified in job-specific hazard assessments (required training, PPE use, standard operating procedures, etc.). Proactively participates in accident prevention efforts and responds to injuries and accidents promptly to modify activities and prevent further accidents.
About the Department/College
The Northern Arizona University Facility Services Landscape and Outdoor Services Department (LOS) is currently hiring one (1) full-time benefit eligible Groundskeeper OR Groundskeeper, Sr. The LOS Department’s goal is to provide a clean, attractive and healthy learning environment. About the Position
Groundskeeper:
The Groundskeeper position reports to the LOS Assistant Manager and performs vital grounds maintenance duties including mowing, line trimming, weeding, edging, pruning, mulching, planting, cleaning and improving landscape beds, watering, daily trash pickup, snow removal and any other duties assigned by a supervisor. The successful candidate will be required to work 6am till 3pm – Monday through Friday. This position is essential to campus operations and may include long hours for campus snow removal.
Groundskeeper Senior:
The Groundskeeper, Sr. position reports to the LOS Assistant Manager and is experienced performing the duties of a Groundskeeper. They may also lead student groundskeepers, inspect work and coordinate grounds maintenance services. The successful candidate will be required to work 6am till 3pm – Monday through Friday. This position is essential to campus operations and may include long hours for campus snow removal.
Responsibilities Include
Groundskeeper:
75% - Grounds Maintenance
- Perform general turf maintenance operations including mowing, line trimming, weeding, aerating, topdressing, fertilizing, sod replacement, edging and thatching.
- Perform general landscaping maintenance including basic shrub maintenance, pruning, installation, mulching, weeding, digging and trenching, and general cleanup of trash and litter.
- Perform general floriculture maintenance including planting flowers and maintaining flower beds and pots.
- Perform basic tree maintenance including pruning, job site cleanup and assisting arborist as needed.
- Responsible for hand watering flowers, shrubs, and trees as needed.
- Perform general grounds cleanup including emptying trash and recycle from receptacles, picking up debris, leaf mulching and removal, sweeping, window well cleanup, and any other cleanup duties assigned by supervisor.
- Operation of various hand tools.
- Operation of various power tools.
- Operation of equipment including push mowers, weed eaters, rototillers, leaf blowers, chain saws, sod cutters, riding mowers, tractors and attachments, dump truck, utility vehicles, and snow removal equipment.
- Assists Irrigation Repairer, installing or repairing heads, lines, valves, clocks, trouble shooting, for both popup and drip systems.
- Assists Heavy Equipment Operator in the completion of various landscaping projects.
- Minor equipment maintenance.
- Ability to operates vehicle with lift as needed.
- Responsible for securing all equipment at the end of shift, removing tools and equipment from trucks and placing in proper storage.
- Inspects grounds equipment to ensure proper maintenance and care is being fulfilled.
- Participates in a training program which familiarizes grounds staff with particular problems involved in landscape and outdoor services including safety, equipment operation, improved techniques and general grounds procedures.
- Initiates and ensures completion of work orders for repair/maintenance.
- Prepares, maintains and submits appropriate records and correspondence as needed.
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
- Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
20% - Seasonal
- Snow removal including shoveling, plowing and de-icing.

- Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Groundskeeper:
None required.
Groundskeeper, Senior:
- High school degree.
- 2 years of relevant experience.
*A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications.

Essential Physical Requirements for Groundskeeper OR Groundskeeper, Senior
- Work performed in dirty environment and possible extreme temperatures.
- Frequent lifting of objects over 50 pounds.
- Considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as climbing ladders, crawling, crouching, bending, or kneeling in restricted areas.

Compensation
Groundskeeper OR Groundskeeper, Senior:
- Salary range begins at $38,753. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire and Security Report
Each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.
