About the Position

NAU's College of Environment, Forestry, and Natural Sciences is hiring a Financial Oversight Analyst, Senior. The Financial Oversight Analyst, Sr. independently manages and controls accounting, budgeting, auditing, and other related functions to ensure the financial integrity of the college. This position oversees the financial areas of the School of Forestry and the Department of Mathematics & Statistics and applies generally accepted accounting principles and procedures in working with specialized accounting records and reports. Additionally, this position coordinates the assembly and analysis of data and transactions; prepares and presents statements and reports relating to assigned area of responsibility; serves as a liaison for faculty and staff seeking day-to-day financial administration support.

Responsibilities Include

20% - Financial Oversight and Budget Management

  • Manages and controls expenditures in accordance with budgeted amounts.
  • Assists with preparation and forecasting of unit-level local budgets in coordination with the Assistant Director, Financial Oversight.
  • Works closely with the Chair/Executive Director to ensure strategic financial decisions align with available resources.
  • Ensures fiscal year-end processes are completed, including all transfers and reconciliation of expenses and revenue.
  • Approves all financial transactions for assigned units and maintains department account accuracy.

20% - Purchasing, Payroll, and Financial Transactions

  • Authorizes requests for supplies, services, and other purchases.
  • Works with the service team to ensure all purchases are accounted for correctly.
  • Submits ePar requests to process appropriate pay for faculty and staff.
  • Assists new faculty with start-up fund purchasing, tracking, and reimbursement processes.

20% - Grant and Research Financial Support

  • Provides research-related financial support to Principal Investigators (PIs), including:
    • Cost Share tracking
    • Indirect Cost (IDC) tracking
    • General PI financial management
  • Manages and tracks funds from other departments when external funding is provided.

20% - Foundation and Scholarship Fund Management

  • Oversees Foundation Funds, including:
    • Expense reimbursements
    • Student award disbursements
    • Deposits
    • Reporting to Chairs/Directors
  • Manages Scholarship and Foundation awards and coordinates with committee members to distribute funds.
  • Monitors, tracks, and requests funds for faculty awards (e.g., Regent Funds, Eminent Scholars, and other faculty awards).

15% - Financial Training and Faculty Support

  • Advises faculty and staff on financial policies and procedures.
  • Instructs and orients new faculty, staff, and administrators on financial processes and best practices.

5% - Other Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • 3 years of accounting or finance experience.

*A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Finance experience in higher education.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel.
  • Experience with NAU financial Systems - Peoplesoft, Enterprise Reporting.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge

  • Advanced knowledge of financial oversight and operations tools, procedures, processes, policies, and concepts, such as payroll management
  • systems and budget analysis projects, as well as such as expense tracking, and trend analysis.
  • Knowledge of financial reporting in higher education and university budgeting practices.

Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Skill in financial modeling.

Compensation

Salary range starts at is $58,882. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.


Pre-Employment Check

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. Also, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire and Security Report

Each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.
