Special Information

  • This position is an on-site position which requires the incumbent to complete their work primarily at an NAU site, campus, or facility with or without accommodation. Opportunities for remote work are rare.
  • Driving a vehicle on behalf of the university is anticipated to be a regular part of this position. Arizona Administrative Code Fleet Safety Policy requires all employees who drive on university business become authorized by submitting Driver’s license information for driving record monitoring, and completion of training appropriate to the level of driving performed. The law applies to all faculty, staff, and students who drive personal or university-owned motorized vehicles for any business purpose.   • Employees of Facility Services are considered essential staff and must report to work when the university is closed for emergencies.  This position is required to participate is on-call, call back duties and snow removal, which can include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Under established circumstances will respond to emergency dispatch calls within set timeframes Administrative or Campus Living buildings

About the Department/College

Under the general direction of the Carpentry Supervisor for Facility Services, this position works closely with Housing and the construction Trades on classroom and office, renovation projects as well as repairing and maintaining the doors, windows, desks, bathroom partitions and the overall general maintenance of the buildings on NAU Campus and satellite facilities.


About the Position

This position is responsible for practicing clean demolition techniques, minor asbestos abatement, quality construction of steel framed walls, doors, and ceilings, cabinet fabrication and repair, fabrication and repair of countertops of varying materials. Keeping daily maintenance logs and reports on a daily time log. Report and repair maintenance issues identified throughout the day.

Responsibilities Include

75% - Project Work

  • Case work, counter tops, steel and wood framing, demolition, abatement, small flooring installations, drywall installation, media installations, whiteboards, cork boards.
  • Maintenance of buildings: doors, windows, cabinet and furniture repairs, vinyl flooring, VCT flooring, historic restoration, stair tread repairs.
  • Snow removal.
  • Work on projects that are outside the traditional Carpentry scope.

10% - Coordinating and Communicating

  • Maintains effective communication with coworkers and other maintenance departments and all customers across campus, fostering a team relationship that allows for collaborative problem solving and process improvement.
  • Keeping accurate daily time recordings.
  • Modify work orders through the Work Control Team.

10% - Equipment Maintenance and Repair

  • Provide Maintenance and repair of shop equipment.
  • Keep worksite and shop safe and clean.
  • Keep online safety profile up to date.

5% Other

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma.
  • 3 years of relevant experience.

*A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications.


Preferred Qualifications

  • 4 or more years of experience in commercial framing.
  • 4 or more years of experience with cabinet fabrication.

  • The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent customer-service skill, possess and demonstrate strong communication skills, a cooperative collaborative nature along with the desire and ability to motivate staff is an essential trait of this position.
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships throughout the University and Flagstaff community
  • Ability to maintain and establish departmental/university safety rules, policies and regulations related to the efficiency and safe performance of jobs performed by the Carpentry department.
  • Skill in Cabinet fabrication: Laminate, Raised panel doors, Veneer
  • Skill in Counter fabrication: Laminate, Solid Surface, Wood
  • Skill in installing Steel Framing, Wood Framing, Steel Doors/Jambs, Wood Doors/Jambs, Steel/Wood Windows.
  • Knowledge of Door repair/adjustment
  • Installation of Acoustical Suspended Ceilings
  • Knowledge of tools, equipment and materials common to the Carpentry trade.
  • Maintenance of shop equipment.
  • Knowledge of Steel Case and modular office furniture.
  • Skill in furniture repair.
  • Media installation such as TV’s, projectors, projector screens, speakers and other types of equipment.
  • Effective and accurate communication with other trades and customers.
  • Able to check E-mail and use the Internet.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Compensation

  • Salary range is $44,422-$55,527. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

Pre-Employment Check

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire and Security Report

Each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.
