- Driving a vehicle on behalf of the university is anticipated to be a regular part of this position. Arizona Administrative Code Fleet Safety Policy requires all employees who drive on university business become authorized by submitting Driver’s license information for driving record monitoring, and completion of training appropriate to the level of driving performed. The law applies to all faculty, staff, and students who drive personal or university-owned motorized vehicles for any business purpose. About the Department/College
The School of Social Work at Northern Arizona University invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Field Education. Reporting directly to the Director of Field Education, this position is responsible for assisting with the administrative functioning of Field Education within the School of Social Work and has a direct influence over experiential learning for BSW and MSW students. The Assistant Director cultivates and supports relationships with community partners within and outside the Flagstaff and Northern Arizona region.
About the Position
Northern Arizona University’s School of Social Work is seeking a dedicated and collaborative Assistant Director, Social Work Field Education to support our BSW and MSW students in both on-campus and online programs. Reporting to the Director of Field Education, this full-time, 12-month staff position plays a vital role in coordinating and managing student field placements, building strong partnerships with community agencies, and ensuring compliance with the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) standards. The ideal candidate will be passionate about student success, skilled in relationship-building, and committed to advancing high-quality practicum experiences that prepare students for impactful careers in social work.
Responsibilities Include
35% Training & Orientation
- Assist the Director of Field Education in training and support of Field Liaisons, Field Supervisors, and students.
- Assist with field student pre-placement orientations.
- Provide ongoing consultation and support to Field Liaisons.
- Review and update materials for Field Supervisor and Field Liaison orientation and training to ensure current information and effective teaching approaches.
- Oversee all the MSW student placement process and work individually with MSW students during the process to search for or and confirm their placement.
- Collaborate with MSW Program Coordinator and Academic Success Program Coordinator related to all newly admitted MSW students. - (Essential)
15% Program Data Management
- Participate in Field Education meetings and update the database of all students in the field regarding problems and steps toward resolutions.
- Database management of student and agency information. - (Essential)
15% Field Placement Support
- Collaborate with and consult the placement team on general issues related to placements and placement process as well as individual student concerns.
- Collaborate to resolve placement issues, identify areas for improvement in systems and operations and contribute to solutions.
- Assess needs and goals of Social Work students related to effective placement settings and experiences; work with students and field agency representatives to plan and execute appropriate internship partnerships.
- Work collaboratively with staff and faculty colleagues and field supervisors to promote the integration of MSW and BSW curricular content in field settings, support student acquisition of foundation and advanced generalist year social work competencies and behaviors, and achieve outcomes assessment goals for Field Education. - (Essential)
15% Recruitment & Research
- Recruitment and development of new agencies to host Social Work Field Education students.
- Proactively identify and develop Field Education sites that provide students with the appropriate supervision and a multi-dimensional practice orientation compatible with the generalist and advanced generalist curriculum. • Conduct BSW and MSW student interviews, both for Online and FLG MTN campus programs, to make appropriate match to field practicum agency. - (Essential)
10% Supervision
- Supervise the Community Program Coordinator, Intermediate.
- Provide Field Supervision to MSW or BSW students, when necessary to support field placement site expansions. - (Essential)
10% Student Academic Support
- Mediate and conduct student support meetings, where necessary, to resolve field-related concerns for all assigned Field Liaisons.
- Collaborate with the academic advising team and instructors, to address academic issues as they relate to field placement.
- Assist in facilitating team meetings with Field Liaisons/Field faculty. - (Essential)
5% Curriculum & Policy Development -
- Assist Field Director in designing and implementing Field Education policies and initiatives.
- Assist Field Director in attending to matters of Field Education curriculum, including syllabus development, and online Field Education components. - (Essential)
5% School of Social Work Committee Participation
- Contribute to Field Education and School of Social work committees and projects.
- Participate in unit activities through committees and may participate in a variety of other professional activities based upon the college and university's needs and the professional's unique skill set.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree of Social Work.
- 2-4 years of management or supervisory experience.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience.
*A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Social Work Degree
- 2-5 years of post-MSW practice experience.
- Experience working with Field Education students.
- Experience in higher education.

Compensation
Salary range begins at $77,871. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire and Security Report
Each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.
