- NAU is currently engaged in transitioning to a new employment category called University Staff, which aligns the current Classified Staff, Service Professional, and Administrator classifications into a single, unified employment group. - Driving a vehicle on behalf of the university is anticipated to be a regular part of this position. Arizona Administrative Code Fleet Safety Policy requires all employees who drive on university business become authorized by submitting Driver’s license information for driving record monitoring, and completion of training appropriate to the level of driving performed. The law applies to all faculty, staff, and students who drive personal or university-owned motorized vehicles for any business purpose. - This position is recruiting for two roles: Assistant Coach, Men's Basketball Intermediate and Assistant Coach, Men's Basketball Lead.
About the Department/College
The Northern Arizona University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics sponsors 15 men's and women's NCAA Division-I programs with more than 350 student-athlete participants. The university is a member of the Big Sky Conference for all sports with the exception of women's swimming and diving, which competes in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF).
About the Position
This position is responsible for assisting with all aspects of coaching and administration of the NAU men's basketball program. The Assistant Men's Basketball Coach will lead student-athletes in their academic, physical and leadership development and promote the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program in a manner that advances the brand of Northern Arizona University
Responsibilities Include
60% - On Court Coaching
- Assists in and may organize, prepare, and conduct individual team practices and trainings; aids in the critical areas of team competition planning, as appropriate to the program.
- Assist the head coach in planning and organizing all phases of a Division I basketball program.
- Promotes a successful philosophy to promote the educational welfare and sportsmanship of the student-athlete.
- Assists as directed with the oversight of athletic training, strength, nutrition and conditioning workouts; provides technical support and training to athletes, as appropriate to the sport; receives instruction and developmental guidance from more senior coaching staff.
- Scouting of assiqned opponents. Assist head coach in overseeing academic progress. Evaluation of student-athletes.
- Demonstrating basketball skills and techniques. Administrative tasks including but not limited to: budgeting, travel and scheduling.
20% - Rules Compliance
- Ensures that team rules and regulations regarding conduct and eligibility of the athletes are clearly communicated and followed.
- All coaches have a duty to cooperate with and furnish the NCAA, Big Sky Conference and NAU with truthful and complete information concerning involvement in or knowledge of rules violations as mandated by NCAA.
15% - Department Representation
- Represents the NAU Men's Basketball program to various institutional programs and externally, as assigned Recruitment and evaluation of prospective student-athletes and related regional and national travel.
- Liaison to designated campus support departments and athletic departments (i.e. residence life, academics).
- Coordinate outreach efforts with community, alumni, and supporters.
5% - Other
- Other duties as assigned.
- If head coach is unable to perform duties, this position would take over.
- Would also lead recruiting efforts in key locations.
Minimum Qualifications
Assistant Coach, Men's Basketball Intermediate:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
- 1 years of relevant experience
- Must possess current AZ Driver’s License
Assistant Coach, Men's Basketball Lead:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
- 4 years of relevant experience
- Must possess current AZ Driver’s License
*A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Playing and coaching experience at the Division 1 level preferred (college level or higher)
- Recruiting experience
- Master’s degree in relevant field

Essential Physical Requirements
- Moderate physical activity.
- Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
Compensation
Assistant Coach, Men's Basketball Intermediate:
Salary range begins at $51,085. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.
Assistant Coach, Men's Basketball Lead:
Salary range begins at $67,714. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire and Security Report
Each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.
